West Palm Beach, Florida

The two biggest sailing areas for yachts are the Mediterranean Sea and the Caribbean. De Keizer had subsidiaries already in Spain and France – but not yet “across the pond”. In September this American dream will come true with a subsidiary in West Palm Beach.

Sjoerd de Keizer: “We wanted a location with good flight connections and infrastructure. With these requirements in mind we arrived in the southern part of Florida, near the Caribbean area. Most large yachts can be found in Fort Lauderdale and so I started my search for a location in that area. We sensed a need for a De Keizer service and refit facility while talking with contacts. And now the American dream becomes reality”.

Mathijs Geerings (37), who manages the service department, the foreign locations and the international refit department is busy with setting up the new office. Mathijs: “De Keizer Marine Engineering already provides work to several shipyards and flies a team over. We are beginning now with our refit location in West Palm Beach, and also want quickly to have a service location in Fort Lauderdale. The office will be operational in Florida in September because there are already a number of large projects in the pipeline which will be starting then. We expect that De Keizer USA LLC will grow in the next five years up to the employment level of some fifteen to twenty people. The starting basic team will consist of new local employees and people who will be transferred from Europe. In this way a professional team is built from day 1 which can immediately start running projects.

With service locations in the Netherlands, Spain and France there already was a rich culture at our company. With the new location in West Palm Beach, American thinking enters this culture. Sjoerd and Mathijs are convinced that America offers a huge potential for growth. Many yachts sail in the Caribbean and Florida. Dozens of those are new and have been built by De Keizer in the Netherlands. And because many boat owners prefer to choose a supplier that they know and trust, we can now offer our clients even better service and maintenance in the Carribean and Florida.

The Guys in Red

This year a fascinating breed of vertebras was present at the Monaco Yacht show; the “Homo Inventor Roseus”, better known as “The Guys in Red”. Yes, that was us.
